HIJAB EVENT 2014

Notes by Mrs Fadhlina Sidek- Nota wacana World Hijab Day tempohari

Ini bermakna hijab is a protection of honour!

3. Bagaimana hijab disisi hak asasi kemanusiaan dalam Islam? Ia dilindungi di bawah hak-hak asasi berikut:

* kehormatan terhadap wanita
*kesaksamaan
*freedom of expression
*freedom of conscience and conviction
*the right to abidin sin.

Semua hak asasi ini adalah prinsip hak asasi dalam Islam yg digariskan oleh Abu A”la Mawdudi.

*Nota 1* nota 2 dll menyusul kemudian...

MEDIA STATEMENT: TERMINATION OF OPERATIONS OF WORLD HIJAB DAY SINGAPORE

It is with great sadness that World Hijab Day in Singapore was forced to cease operations after the committee was faced with intense scrutiny and threats by the Singapore government. However, their cause was solely to spread religious understanding and greater awareness towards a peaceful world on the 1st of February 2014. The committee has been disbanded ever since.

World Hijab Day (WHD) is an international peaceful awareness campaign which took place all over the world and is endorsed by various countries including United States, Canada, Belgium, Holland, France and Australia. This campaign which has ambassadors in over 100 countries reflects the overwhelming support of both Muslims and non-Muslims worldwide in improving religious understanding and elimination of discrimination against women in hijab.

Malaysia was particularly active in this event as there were Muslim and non-Muslim participants gathered in shopping malls wearing hijab. Being a multiracial country, Malaysia also has non-Muslims as ambassadors namely Mrs. Universe 2013, Carol Lee and Felixia Yeap endorsing this cause.

Hence, the Singapore government’s actions in threatening and scrutinising the committee of WHD Singapore is disheartening as it is clear discrimination against Muslims in hijab and the efforts for mutual religious understanding even though we are living in diverse communities.

AN OPEN LETTER IN REGARDS TO TERMINATION OF WORLD HIJAB DAY SINGAPORE PAGE

MIZAN reads with regret the claim made by Ms Seri Fatmawati Hambali, Ambassador of World Hijab Day Singapore (http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/…/world-hijab-day…) expressing the threat and discrimination by authorities to the committee members of World Hijab Day in Singapore.
Mr Filbert Tay, First Secretary at the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur when contacted replied that “no further information” could be given with regards to the matter and would release an official comment on the allegations. We believe Singapore is a model country, which values freedom of expression as well as religious freedom. We wish for any misunderstandings with regards to the Hijab in Singapore to be dealt with promptly through dialogue and education. Issues like religious tolerance and acceptance such as the right to wear a hijab must be looked upon seriously.

We believe there should not be any double standard or prosecution towards the right for any individual to manifest their religious belief. What more, the Hijab encourages a moderate and modest behaviour of the wearer. It is a choice many Muslim women chose to make on their own which do not hinder any contribution the veiled woman can and should make to society. Many Muslim women donning the Hijab have contributed immensely in various different fields to society at a global level.
World Hijab Day is an international celebration celebrated around the world by citizens of Western countries such as Australia, France, US, Canada, Philippines, China, Ghana, Holland, India, Indonesia, Lebanon, Tunisia, United Kingdom, Belgium and many more with a mission to create “Better Awareness, a Greater Understanding and a Peaceful World”. Human beings despite their faith, colour, religion or what they choose to wear must be respected. Muslim women must not be discriminated by any government which values individuality and independence.
